Minoxidil
In men, minoxidil stabilizes the course of the male-pattern baldness (androgenetic alopecia) in the crown area. In a product description it says, for example:
" [the product] stabilizes the course of the male-pattern baldness (androgenetic alopecia) in the crown area of the scalp, in an area of 3-10 cm diameter, in men aged 18-49 years.
In the majority of cases, the treatment can result in a slowing of hair loss and can counteract its progress. However, only a few patients can expect satisfactory results...
For loss of hair density in the temporal area (receding hairline), there are no reports in connection with its efficacy."
According to the manufacturer however, the hair loss is stopped in 70-80% of cases, with up to 30% of the cases where it provides a limited hair regrowth effect. However, satisfactory results are achieved by less than 10% of the users. The best results can be expected for dark-haired men of 50 years of age, in which the hair loss has been installed for a period of less than 10 years.
In women, minoxidil stabilize the course of the diffuse loss of hair density on the scalp (hair thinning) in the crown area and can counteract the progression of baldness.
Duration of treatment
The drug is applied as a solution or foam onto the scalp. If successful, the first results are noticeable after 3 to 4 months. The best result is achieved after about 12 months. If the treatment is stopped, the hair loss will resume after 3 to 4 months.
